Friday Feature: Hey There, Cupcake!

TGIF has never been more appropriate to say! Phew, it has been a busy week at the B & A headquarters and we are thankful it’s Friday for more than one reason, but a biggie is that we are glad to feature another local vendor on our blog today! Boy, do we have a special treat for you readers with this one…..we are highlighting the wonderful (and tasty!) cake artistry that is Hey There, Cupcake!

Feast your eyes upon the first cake we ever spotted from Stevi, owner and cake designer extraodinaire at Hey There, Cupcake!  Yup, it was love at first sight. This “Tangled” inspired cake that was so perfectly conceptualized and executed had us hooked. We then went over to the Hey There, Cupcake! Facebook page immeadiately after and drooled over every intricate creation there as well…
Let me tell you, we would not mind getting one of these mini LV’s– too cute for words!
Tiffany box petit fours! We die! To be honest, we wanted to post every single cupcake and cake that has ever been created by HTC. They are all just too amazing.
We love featuring vendors we’ve collaborated with numerous times- since we can without a doubt tell you of their reliability and consistency of superb work! Below are some of the fun projects we had the pleasure of working with Stevi on.
The trefoil pattern and badge adorned Scout’s Honor cake-we were blown away when we saw this little trooper in person!
The drop dead gorgeous masterpiece for the Peace, Love, and Cake inspired photo shoot! Whenever we work with Stevi we feel limitless and free to think outside the box– she can really create anything you want. If you are looking for a cake that perfectly embodies the style of your wedding than Hey There, Cupcake! should be where you are heading! It will be all anyone talks about. And of course delicious-it’s a win-win!
Speaking of which they got voted “San Diego’s Best Cupcakes 2011” by the San Diego Union Tribune. We can vouch for that too! We drove up to L.A. with a box of her cupcakes and this beauty for the Utterly Engaged Leap Year Party and had to keep slapping each other’s hand out of the box. The mocha flavored buttercream smelled heavenly! The beautiful cake definitely helped our team score the coveted Editor’s Choice title at the event!
We spotted these black and white beauties on the HTC facebook page and couldn’t help but daydream about what she is whipping up for a project we are working together on next week! Hint, those colors will definitely be incorporated! Can’t wait to share the outcome and more creations of Stevi’s!

It’s Cookie Time! Scout’s Honor Photo Shoot

Seems like it was just yesterday that we were putting the final touches on this shoot. Almost 4 months later and after it’s been featured on Green Wedding Shoes and The Party Press blog, we decided we better share our favorite shots! We get so giddy every time we look at pictures from this one, so you would think we would have had this up asap!  To be honest I think we just didn’t know where to begin. We got SO many amazing pictures back from Katie Scott of Swoon by Katie. Seriously every thing this lady shoots is gold. See below.

The tablescape was definitely a labor of love. We spent hours spray painting the mini lanterns and the canteens, which were camo print in a previous life, and sewing the pink ribbon around the canteens. We also had to remove all the  labels from the glass Strabucks frappuccino drinks that were used as milk milk bottles- but it was all worth it to see it come together!

The lovely ladies over at Blush Botanicals created the most stunning centerpiece for the table! They totally got the vibe we were going for and nailed it. They put together the dreamiest arrangements…..

The table wouldn’t have looked so flawless either without the gorgeous linens provided by Wildflower and the Chiavari Chairs from Allie’s Party Rentals. These details definitely helped create the overall vision.

Can we talk about how awesome all of the paper elements are!? Posh Paperie is amazing to work with- so creative and so enthusistic! Still obsessed with the invites and of course the little mini Beverly Hills esque dessert markers! We die!

Seriously all of these girls are already stunning, but we were so lucky to have  10.11 Make up & Hair  there to get them camera ready. They worked their magic and made the girls look flawless. Love how natural and radiant they all look- check out that killer hair!

Our Bridal Survial Kit read “always be prepared” and was stocked with mini tools for mini emergencies! Safety pins, bobby pins, hair spray, lint roller, breath mints, sewing kit, lotion, eye drops, blotting tissues, band-aids, you name it we had it!

We can’t sing Stevi from Hey There! Cupcake’s praises enough! She is a true artist! If you can dream it she can make it out of cake. Annnd make it taste amazing too! We had “Scout’s Honor Strawberry” cupcakes, “Do-Si-I Do” peanut butter cupcakes, and mini Smore’s cupcakes, in addition to the Girl Scout sash inspired cake! Her attention to detail is unparralled. Love the subtle trefoil pattern on the cake.

Moss Vintage Rentals really helped set the scene with all of their vintage books, dinnerware, and cake plates. Love the table we got to borrow for the dessert station! It was perfect and we couldn’t help thinking it would make an amazing sweetheart table too!

Let us remind you that it was not Girl Scout cookie season when we did this shoot and there were no Samoa’s to come by! Luckily, the kind people of VG Donuts & Bakery  helped us create these delicious homemade versions of the cookie.

Still obsessed with the vintage Girl Scout camera we scored on ebay! Too cute for words….

Big thanks to our wonderful models! We adore you for braving that cold December day and rocking it in the spring outfits we put you in!

Sneak Peek: Utterly Engaged Leap Year & Design Challenge

Waiting to see some sneaks of this inspiration board come to life? Well, we had a blast at the Utterly Engaged Leap Year Party & Design Challenge up in Pasadena this week and wanted to share some previews of our team’s table!

This is a mash up of some of the projects we were working on the past few weeks for the table scape! The hot pink chairs above we bought at a local consignment store- in a previous life they were tiki brown with a green seat. A little spray paint and a burlap reupholstery job and bam! instant awesomeness. The pillow was created from Peruvian fabric we bought from Etsy! The top right hand corner is a cofee sack that went around the base of our backdrop and was overflowing with aromatic coffee beans! We jazzed them up with fun embroidery. The burlap runner in the bottom right was created with painter’s tape, fabric paint and stencils. So fun and easy to do!

Did we mention we made 250 yarn tassels by hand for our backdrop? Oh, well we did. Yes, we’re crazy. Above is the work of art being assembled the day before the challenge. Only took 3 hours to hang all of them- no biggie!

Side view of our table mid set-up on the big day! You can see a peek of the other fabulous teams setting up too! Loved meeting A Fabulous Fete who had a gorgeous table next to us!

Reminder that these are all iphone pics, so please excuse the poor quality! Even in this dingy picture, Hey There, Cupcake!‘s gorgeous cake looks friggin’ awesome!! Big shout out to Stevi who did a killer job with this one- knocked it out of the park by perfectly combining all of the table’s elements!

Kind of seriously obsessed with these arrangements from Seed Floral! DeeAnn and Stephanie were total MVP’s of the day! Whipping up some awesome swag to go on the front of our table and a gorgeous coffee sack that was overflowing with flowers! Wowza! All the tins that were used were vintage coffee and tea tins- so pretty in person! And there’s a sneak of our yarn wrapped candle holders…

Annnnnd the most amazing paper elements designed by the most amazing Amber of Pitbulls & Posies!! She is a genius and came up with the idea to make the invites leap! The word Leap “fell” down when pulled out of the main invite. And look at that attention to detail with all of those beads on the front!! She is a girl after our hearts. So glad to call her a friend!

Can’t wait to see & share the real pics of the party!! Stay tuned……

Featured: Peace, Love, Cake on Style Me Pretty!

Yippee! We are so thrilled and honored to be featured on Style Me Pretty today! We had so much fun on the Peace, Love, and Cake shoot and just had the greatest group of creatives working with us!

The amazing Justin Lee was behind the lens. Stunning make-up and hair by Jessica & Carrie of Lovestruck. Fabulous florals by Natalie of Floral Palette. Beyond cute paper elements by Nic. Roc. Designs. INCREDIBLE cake by Hey There, Cupcake! Super duper stoked to have been able to shoot at the Luce Loft downtown. Killer space.

Big thanks to Hire Elegance for the crazy cool chairs & Moss Vintage Rentals for the LOVE sign and vintage tables! Stay tuned to see a sweet D-I-Y on the confetti plates we made for the shoot….

We’re Utterly Excited!!

It’s horrible, we know, but you can bet whenever we’re neglecting this blog it’s because we’re head high in projects! Which is exactly how it’s been for the last two weeks-ever since we accepted the invitation to be part of Utterly Engaged’s Annual Party and Design Challenge. We sure are glad we did though, it’s going to be one helluva party. You better hurry and get your tickets here!

The theme of this year’s party is Leap Year Remix and the Design Challenge is supposed to encompass the spirit of taking a“Leap of Faith” while combining the aesthetics/cultures of two countries that ShelterBox has benefitted. ShelterBox is an amazing disaster relief charity that delivers boxes of aid instantly following natural and other disasters to those who need it most.

When looking through the list of countries we were immediately drawn to Colombia (coffffeeee!) and Peru (bright colors!) and above is our inspiration board for the challenge. You can expect to see hints of coffee here and there (rich browns, maybe some spare beans!?) and lots of pops of bright fuchsia and aqua! Maybe a tassel or two….

We’re most thankful for the amazing team we have collaborating on this table. We’re so honored to be working with them, it’s crazzzzy! Here’s the line-up: Florist extraordinaire Stephanie from Seed Floral, If-you-can-dream-it-she-can-make-it Stevi from Hey There! Cupcake, and last but not least graphic design & paper goddess Amber of Pitbulls and Posies! Some crazy talented ladies right there and we are so stoked to not only be able to work with them, but to party with them!

Tune in to our twitter page to see sneaks of the table on Wednesday…
